Task ‘Lag’

What is Task ‘Lag’?

When you set a Dependency between Tasks, the system will attempt to Schedule the Tasks in sequence, where the Successor Task starts directly* after the Predecessor Task.

If you do not wish the Successor Task to start directly* after the Predecessor – you can set a ‘Lag‘ value, which will enforce a ‘Buffer‘ in the Schedule between the two Tasks.

(*Directly – In accordance with the Task Constraint settings).

How to set Task Lag?

To set Task ‘Lag’; Double-Click on the Task in the Gantt Chart to launch the Task Detail Form and click on the “Scheduling” option to open the Scheduling settings.

Note: You can only access the ‘Scheduling‘ option in the Task Detail Form if you launch the form from the Gantt Chart.

The Scheduling area shows all Predecessor and Successor Dependencies for the Task.

Click inside the ‘Lag‘ value (far right) for each Dependant Task to enter the desired Lag value. By default the system will record Lag in Days. However you can type ‘Hours‘ into the field if you wish to set Lag in hours.
