‘Network’ Settings

What is a Network?

Network‘ is the Top-Level grouping of Offices in Pulse.

All Offices must belong to a single Network.

Note: With the Translation settings in Pulse, ‘Network‘ is sometimes called ‘Account‘.

What does the Network control?
The Network feature in Pulse allows groups of Offices to function completely autonomously, with their own settings and controls – separated from Offices/Users in other Networks.

Offices in a Network can have:
– Their own ‘Network Superusers’, who can securely manage all aspects of their Offices, Users, Projects.
– Timesheet Activities
– Project Default Options
– Security Options
– Workflow Settings
Why would I need separate Networks?
Typically the Offices are grouped into Networks when:
– They need different Workflow or Timesheet Activity settings
– They need to be separated from other Offices for security reasons
– They need to have an ‘Admin User’ who can control Admin settings for some Offices – but not ALL Offices.
Can Users in Different Networks work Together?
By default, Offices and Users in different Networks will NOT see each other.

The system is designed like this, to provide a virtual ‘Firewall‘ between Offices using the Network Settings.

However, if collaboration is required between Offices/Users/Projects in different Networks, this can be managed via the ‘Alien User‘ system in Pulse.

The Alien User system allows you to setup an ‘Agreement‘ between different Offices to share Users – regardless of the Network grouping.

Example Usage of Network
In a large Global Organisation, you may have separate ‘Divisions‘ with their own Offices and Users.

In this example situation, you may want to allow autonomy of management of the Pulse system, so each Network can have their own Pulse settingsmanaged internally.

If each ‘Division‘ of the Company in this example is setup as a Network, and the Offices are grouped accordingly – it is possible for each Division (Network) to have their own settings, controls and Network Admin users.

How to Create a New Network

You must be a System Superuser to Create/Edit Networks.

Networks‘ are setup and managed in the Address Book. Simply choose:

  1. Address Book > Networks
  2. Click ‘Create Network’ Button
  3. Enter the Name of the Network
  4. Click ‘Save’ Button

Once the Network is created, it will be available in the ‘Office‘ settings in the Address Book, so you can group Offices into the Network.
